What insurance does a caravan park need?
There are a range of covers that most caravan and lodging parks will need as a starting point. These can be tailored to your specific needs with indemnity covers appropriate to the risks your business faces. Core covers that you will want to consider include:
Public liability insurance for caravan and campsites. Your guests – members of the public – are obviously on site for their holiday. And with holiday makers relaxing with a drink and kids running carefree round the play area, things can go wrong. Public liability insurance will protect you from costs where a member of the public claims to have been injured, suffered illness or a loss as a consequence of your business activity.
Employers Liability. If you operate a seasonal business, it’s likely that in addition to full time staff, you will have seasonal workers joining your team at peak season. Employers Liability Insurance is required by law in the UK – not only for full time staff but for seasonal and casual workers, too.
Buildings and contents insurance. In addition to the site office, you may own static vans, glamping pods or lodgings for guests to rent and stay in. You may also have an onsite bar or restaurant. Whatever your particular set up is, you will need to protect all your buildings and contents. You will probably need to consider extending cover to include protection to the grounds themselves as well as any other physical assets – from a children’s play ground to an outdoor pool.
Business interruption cover. You’re all set for the beginning of the season and a freak storm hits, causing flood damage on your caravan park. This means you have to cancel guests for a period while repairs are made so that you can trade again. BI Insurance can protect you by covering your fixed costs until you get back up and running again.
